由於著作權法「不保護概念，只保護表達｣，所以在網路上產生許多值得探索的議題，例如：地理資訊。當利用電腦與網路可以輕易地計算或統計出一定的地理資訊、或是集結網路力量(來源可以是個人、地區、州、聯邦、營利事業或非營利事業)，都可以對於某一個地理區域的資訊予以創造或重現時，如何結合這些地理資訊，再加以分享、使用或再使用時，就必須考量如何整合這些來自不同地方的資訊，尤其是當這些資訊的授權方式、契約義務都不同時，其互相間的相容性問題。

對於地理資訊之分享與建構有興趣的朋友，可以注意明年於美國所舉辦的網路時代下的智慧財產權與地理資訊研討會「Law and the GeoWeb｣，該研討會係由Creative Commons與美國地質勘探局(United States Geological Survey (USGS))聯合贊助，並於2011年4月11日在華盛頓州西雅圖Microsoft Research的園區中舉辦，他們也將會把研討會內容放在網路上與大家分享。
